What happens when educators have access to high-quality alternatives to animal dissection?
Students become more engaged. Teachers meet their learning goals. And classrooms discover that meaningful, hands-on science doesn’t require animal specimens.
That’s exactly what we’ve seen through the BioLEAP Classroom Grant Program.
During the 2025–26 grant cycle, BioLEAP supported educators across the country in bringing humane science into their classrooms through innovative learning tools that promote inquiry, exploration, and student success. As educator evaluations continue to be received, the results already demonstrate the program’s growing impact.
Based on the first 18 educator evaluations received:
- Nearly 1,300 students have benefited from BioLEAP-supported learning tools.
- More than 1,000 animal specimens and biological materials have been replaced with humane alternatives.
- 94% of educators reported meeting their student learning goals.
- 100% reported positive student reactions to the alternatives.
- 100% plan to continue using the BioLEAP-funded materials in future classes.
Educators also reported that students learned as well as—or better than—they would have using traditional animal specimens, reinforcing that effective science education is driven by meaningful learning experiences, not the use of animals.
